Creating a batch

From Brews, tap the add button and choose whether you are starting with first fermentation (F1) or already in second fermentation (F2). Add the main batch details:

  • Tea type
  • Total volume
  • Sugar amount
  • Starter liquid amount
  • Start date
  • Starting point (F1 or F2)
  • Notes

Fermenta uses these details to estimate stage timing, plan enabled reminders, compare batches, and help you repeat recipes that worked well.

Tracking fermentation

Open an active batch and add logs. Available fields depend on the current stage:

  • Flavor (F1)
  • pH (F1)
  • Temperature (F1 and F2)
  • Carbonation (F2)
  • Pressure released (F2)
  • Notes (F1 and F2)

Fermenta adds milestone entries when a batch changes stage. You can edit or delete your own logs while the batch is fermenting.

Editing batch information

If you make a mistake or want to update a batch, open the batch details and edit what you need to change.

Keeping batch data accurate makes it easier to compare results later.

iCloud Sync

When iCloud is available, Fermenta automatically syncs batches, custom flavors, and SCOBY hotels through your private iCloud database. Settings > iCloud shows the current status and any conflicts that need review.

If your data is not syncing:

  • Use the same Apple Account on every device.
  • Allow Fermenta in Settings > [your name] > iCloud > See All.
  • Check your internet connection.
  • Open Fermenta on the devices you want to sync.
  • Sync timing is managed by iOS, so changes may not appear immediately.

If iCloud is disabled or unavailable, Fermenta continues to work with local data only.

Changing device

To access your synced data on a new Apple device:

  1. Sign in with the same Apple Account.
  2. Allow Fermenta to use iCloud.
  3. Install and open Fermenta.
  4. Keep Fermenta open briefly and wait for syncing to finish before relying on the new device.

If you were using Fermenta without iCloud Sync, your data may only exist on the original device.

Reminders

In Settings > Notifications, choose reminders for F1, F2, and finishing. Fermenta Pro also adds SCOBY hotel care reminders. Reminders are scheduled locally on each device. If batches sync to another device, that device schedules separate reminders using its own settings.

Fermenta Pro

Fermenta Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks more than one active batch and the SCOBY hotel. Open the Fermenta Pro row in Settings to purchase or restore it. Restoring requires the same Apple Account used for the purchase.

Data privacy

Fermenta stores your brewing data locally and syncs it through your private iCloud database when iCloud is available. Firebase Crashlytics and RevenueCat process crash diagnostics and Fermenta Pro purchase status. Read the Privacy Policy for full details.

Food safety

Fermenta helps you track your kombucha, but it cannot determine whether a batch is safe to drink. The mold check and troubleshooting in Tools can provide guidance. If a batch has an unusual odor, shows mold, or seems unsafe, do not drink it.
